1. Too many clothes (in small sizes)
Initially, kids don't get too dirty, clothes quickly get outgrown, and visitors often bring clothes as gifts. Therefore, accumulating a lot of clothes in sizes 50, 56, and 62 is unnecessary. Kids don't need a full wardrobe of clothes in those sizes, even though they may seem cute to you.
2. Bottle warmers and sterilizers
If you plan to breastfeed, you may not even need bottle warmers. For formula-fed babies, having hot boiled water in thermos bottles and cold boiled water at hand is sufficient.
3. (Too many) bottles
If you're breastfeeding, you may not need bottles at all. Even if you plan to have some on hand, one is usually enough. Consider carefully whether stocking up on formula and bottles is truly necessary.
4. (Too many) pacifiers
At the beginning, you might not need three sets as your baby may not even accept them until breastfeeding is established. It's better for babies to satisfy their sucking needs at the breast to regulate milk supply effectively.
5. Breast pump
In the early days, babies don't need much, and if pumping becomes necessary, fathers can buy them on the day you leave the hospital. Avoid getting too involved in pumping and stressing about milk supply.
6. (Too many) plush toys
While you may receive many as gifts, children usually start playing with everyday objects first. Plush toys often collect dust until around the third year when pretend play becomes more common.
7. Portable cribs and sleeping bags
Consider how frequently you will use them before purchasing. Many parents find that babies prefer sleeping closer to them rather than in separate sleep areas.
8. Playpens
Once the baby can sit up on their own, allowing them to explore a safe environment on the floor fosters better development than confining them to a playpen.
9. Baby walkers
Pediatricians and therapists discourage the use of walkers due to potential harm to babies' development. Letting a child move freely on the floor is better for their motor skills.
10. Diaper disposal bins
Opt for environmentally friendly options to reduce waste. Consider using cloth diapers or occasionally letting your baby be diaper-free.
